Former Teacher & Literacy Coach Review…

As a former Literacy Coach and English Teacher I’m always interested in books for younger readers. Playground Smarts, (a takeoff of Streets Smarts) is a series of books written for children ages 3 to 10.

The author, AJ Burton, has discovered an easy and ingenious way to get kids reading and interacting with their parents, grandparents, even teachers reading to their class.

My nine year granddaughter asked me, “Grandma if you were an entrepreneur, what would you do to make money?” I said, “I don’t know. Why?” This is how I discovered “Playground Smarts”.

She handed me one of Burton’s books, “I Want an Ultrabot 5000.” We had a very in depth conversation over one easy to read book. Burton focuses on skills, included on the back of his books, to help readers, parents, grandparents, anyone reading with the child.

Simple and adorable illustrations bring the text to life. Kids see themselves in Burton’s books.

I highly recommend these books for young readers, especially reluctant readers. Please check out this author, I do not think you will be disappointed.
